Happy New Year from Justice At Last

Happy New Year!

I wanted to wish you a healthy and prosperous year ahead and thank you for supporting Justice At Last in 2021. Your generous contributions enhanced our abilities to help labor and sex trafficked persons achieve justice on their own terms. Thanks to your generosity:

· We served 207 human trafficked survivors.

· We trained over 1300 attorneys, service providers, law enforcement personnel and survivor-thrivers about the legal forms of relief for trafficking victims.

We remain optimistic that in 2022 Justice At Last will continue to expand our legal and wraparound social services for trafficked persons with the same fierce dedication and passion than ever before to ensure our clients have the knowledge, tools, confidence and support to pursue their own pathways to self-determination.

Will you partner with us now, for a monthly commitment or one-time donation to welcome in 2022?

· $15 buys a client a healthy meal when they meet with their attorney or client advocate.

· $25 helps cover the fee to get a certified copy of a birth certificate.

· $50 goes towards the fees for fingerprinting/livescan to review a criminal rap sheet that the survivor was forced to commit by the trafficker

Your gift is tax deductible and will benefit the clients we have the honor of serving in 2022.

With warmest wishes for a fabulous New Year,
Rose Mukhar
Executive Director

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month

Did you know that January 11th is Human Trafficking Awareness Day and that President Obama proclaimed January “National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month” back in 2010, and, every year since, each president has followed the same tradition.

To help create an understanding of the work we do with and on behalf of trafficked persons, Justice At Last is hosting two events promote awareness that human trafficking is occurring right here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

On January 21st from 12-1pm PST, our very own Rose Mukhar, President and Executive Director, will kick us off with a recap of 2021 highlights and Somita Basu, Chair of the Board of Directors, and Carolyn Kim, Managing Attorney, will join us and share some exciting news for 2022. This is a great chance to learn more about our Staff, Board of Directors and Advisory Council. To attend this event please register here.

On January 28th from 1-3pm PST we are spotlighting the Justice At Last Advisory Council and hosting a discussion about why it is so critical that subject matter experts with a variety of lived experiences be in leadership roles AND get compensated for their expertise. If you are a social or legal services provider or doing any anti-trafficking policy work, please join us to learn firsthand from some of the nation’s most recognized experts about how to respectfully work and value subject matter experts. To attend this event please register here.

Special Thanks to Valentina Chang and Alec Holmes for participating in our very first Jog for Justice event! We also want to thank all the donors, including Valentina’s and Alec’s friends and family, for helping them raise $865. Additionally, we would like to recognize the support from our very own Kerete Paul, Administrative Assistant, Paloma Chavez, Undergraduate Intern, and all the high school, college and law school students that contributed to #Jog4Justice.

The Jog for Justice event was a chance for high school, college, and law school students to help raise awareness of human trafficking over the Thanksgiving holiday and join the anti-trafficking movement by raising money to provide free legal services to trafficking survivors. Jog for Justice participants organized outdoor or sport-related activities in their communities and helped create awareness.

Thanks for Helping Establish

Our First Adopt a Family!

In our first year supporting “Adopt a Family” we were delighted with the results. Thanks to generous gift card donations received, we were able to provide two separate single-parent households, one with 3 children under 10 years and another with 2 children under 4 years old with holiday gift cards from various grocery and retail stores, and restaurants, as well as family passes to movie theaters and local zoo. Thank you for helping make the winter holidays a little extra special for these two single-parent families!
